Jessie's Final Touches and a Finished Piece

Painting space and spacial elements is not as easy as it may seem. The most difficult part of this painting for most students is achieving the foggy look of different colored gases that we see in photos of space. This requires a mastery of blending paint correctly, achieving a smooth transition of color gradation. One of the other obstacles that Jessie faced was using a nylon brush in the beginning, which became some what of a problem when it came to blending. The best brush for blending is a good bristle brush. The painting turned out amazing! I’m so proud of Jessie’s effort and patience with the obstacles she faced.

Astronomical Painting with Jessie

My art student Jessie has been working on her astronomical painting learning how to blend different colors of paint and fade it away into the background, which isn't an easy task to learn. With the right brushes and instruction, she has been doing an awesome job! It's been a fun experience and I can't wait to see it finished at our next art lesson!

Yana's Art Blog

Hello readers! Thank you for visiting my blog! For so many years, I had been reading other people’s blogs, learning from their experiences and tips. Now, as an art teacher, I have come across many different situations which require me to elaborate on subjects I’m asked about in more detail to help my students, parent’s of my students and art fans! So I hope you will get at least some answers to your questions here and surely I would love to hear from you and help you in any way I can.

Today however, I would like to share how proud I am of my student Vivian Lu, who has been taking my art lessons starting from ninth grade and has now graduated high school! What a pleasure it is for me to see someone grow and mature as a young artist and individual and use her learning and development as she takes off to new beginnings.

The first time we met, she just started to work on a color pencil drawing “Grease,” which turned out excellent! It’s vibrant colors, great blending and transitioning of values on fabric. Slowly, she has progressed to working in different genres and even taking requests by family members such as the painting of the martini glass and cards for her uncle’s restaurant, the abstract guitar and the Van Halen piece for her father in-law, and finally, the gemstone as her finishing piece for her mom. I really value her diligent work ethic and ability to quickly grasp my instruction and use it to achieve such amazing work! Over these years, Vivian and I formed a bond that is very special. She makes me realize everyday how valuable my work is with my students and how special these relationships become within a given time together. I wish you much success Vivian in the future and please continue to make art!!
